Ultimate Car Show worth supporting!

For the third year in a row, we are donating to Ultimate Car Show and Charity Fundraiser at J's Ultimate Hand Car Wash. This year's show will be at the car wash from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, July 25. Since 2013, J's has been holding the show to bring a nice event to Garden City, and also to raise money for charities. As in years past, we're donating a couple of oil changes (which are the best in the business, by the way!).

We reprinted the news release for this year's show, which has all the details, including the purpose of the charity. This year, money raised will go toward supporting veterans programs. So, please stop by J's this Saturday!

Continuing a tradition of a Garden City summer event, J’s Ultimate Hand Car Wash will host its third annual Ultimate Car Show on from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, at its location at 3756 Chinden Boulevard.

Owner Jason Smullin said the event has been growing each year and the 2015 event will include up to 50 classic and other show cars, as well as live music by Soul Kitchen, drawings for prizes and family fun. Jackson’s Food Store, which is next to J’s, will also join in the celebration, as it did in 2014, and have a food tent with hot dogs, hamburgers and other edibles.

“Other cities have local fairs and festivals and Garden City should too,” Smullin said. “We’d like to make this event something that people identify with Garden City and we hope it grows every year.”

J’s will be open for business as usual during the event and Smullin will donate $5 of every full service carwash sold that day. Rich Cesler, Commander of VFW Post 1173, is assisting with the event and will collect donations that will be used directly to help local veterans.

Cesler said some of the money collected will pay for haircuts for veterans who cannot afford them at the state Veterans Homes in Boise, Pocatello and Lewiston. The rest of the money will go to support the Homeless Veterans Initiative at the Boise Rescue Mission. The program helps veterans who have successfully finished VA drug and alcohol programs and are considered good candidates to re-enter society with additional support from the program.

“While Boise is a very friendly community to veterans, there are still great needs among veterans young and old,” Cesler said. “We have a new crop of younger veterans over the past decade and many of them need services. We appreciate local businesses like J’s who hold these kinds of events to help.”

The car show is free to entrants and will have dash plaques and five categories with trophies. Car owners don’t need to stay for the entire event, but may leave early or arrive late if they have to. If you would like to enter a car in the show, contact Marty Johncox at [email protected] or 658-9100.

Drawings will be held throughout the day for free goods and services and there will also be a silent auction. Prizes will include gift cards from Clothesline Cleaners, Bruneel Tire Factory, Plantation Tune Tech. Baird Oil and Jackson’s have graciously donated use of some of their parking space for the event.

In 2013, the car show festival raised money for a local boy fighting cancer (who has now recovered) and the 2014 show benefitted the Boise Rescue Mission.

Drawings for prizes will be held throughout the day. Any local business who would like to donate is asked to contact Johncox. For updates on the event, visit
